Georgia names insurance agency official as new statewide tech chief
Subramanian “Subi” Muniasamy will join the Georgia Technology Authority next year as the statewide chief technology officer, the agency announced on Monday.
Muniasamy is currently the chief information officer for the state’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, where he integrated the Georgia Insurance Management System with Salesforce. He previously worked at Deloitte Consulting; Optum, a health care services provider; and CGI Federal, an IT service management company, according to the announcement.
“Subi comes to GTA with proven expertise in executing large-scale modernization efforts in state government,” Georgia CIO Shawnzia Thomas said in the announcement. “From strategy to implementation, he has the skills and experience to build on Georgia’s recent successes in migrating state applications to cloud environments. Subi shares GTA’s commitment to providing secure, reliable technology services for the state.”
Georgia’s tech agency is currently reviewing public comments for its Digital Connectivity Plan its plans for Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment funds in an effort to close the digital divide. The Technology Association of Georgia this year recognized the connectivity plan for its efforts in providing high-speed internet access to unserved communities.
The agency is also hosting a summit on generative artificial intelligence this week as the state prepares to release a policy providing ethical guidance for state agencies.
Before working in Georgia state government, Muniasamy served as executive director of the Maryland Total Human Services Integrated Network initiative, where he helped build a cloud platform that consolidated information within the health and human services department. He also served as CTO of the Maryland Department of Human Services and CIO of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange.
Muniasamy joins the tech agency after former CTO Dmitry Kagansky departed in October. Prior to Kagansky, the role was held by Steve Nichols, who served in the position for 20 years.
