St. Louis hires first chief technology officer
The St. Louis government has hired its first chief technology officer (CTO).
Robert Gaskill-Clemons, former statewide enterprise technology architect at the State of Washington, has been appointed to the role, according to an announcement Tuesday by the office of Mayor Lyda Krewson.
Gaskill-Clemons, who began with the Missouri city earlier this month, will work alongside the its chief information officer, Cindy Riordan, who was sworn into her new role in late December. Riordan has been with the city 23 years in various analyst and project-leadership roles.
As CTO, Gaskill-Clemons’ role is to lead initiatives “to explore how technology can be used to improve quality of life for citizens,” according to the city. He is also expected to be the lead for developing new partnerships between city government and local technology businesses.
“With the help of Cindy and Robert, we will be ensuring that St. Louis is making the best use of 21st century technology for our 21st century city,” Krewson said in a statement. “That means improving how residents get information and assistance from city government, streamlining the way city departments and agencies work together, using tech solutions to solve public problems, and making sure that residents and businesses in all parts of our city have access to the technologies that will help them succeed.”
Before his time with Washington state, the city reports that Gaskill-Clemons served in business and technology consulting roles for the American Red Cross and as an officer in the U.S. military.
