South Dakota’s chief technology officer to retire this year
South Dakota Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow is set to retire this year after nearly three decades in state government, according to the state’s chief information officer.
South Dakota CIO Jeff Clines last week posted on LinkedIn that the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications will hire a new chief technology officer.
“We are looking for an amazing technology leader to fill the shoes of our current and amazing CTO Pat Snow who is retiring this year after several decades of dedicated and amazing service to the State of South Dakota,” Clines wrote.
Since 1996, Snow has worked at the state government, where he started as a network technologies manager. He’s also held roles of state director of telecommunications and briefly took over as the state’s CIO in April 2018 until Heather Perry — Clines’ predecessor — was appointed by by Gov. Kristi Noem in 2019 to serve as interim CIO.
Snow told StateScoop last November the state is working on several large IT modernization efforts, including the state’s enterprise identity platform and plans to digitize some of its services. He said the state has moved about 120 of its services online and plans to continue releasing new digital services quarterly.
