Florida city enhances mobile emergency preparedness app
City officials in Jacksonville, Florida, have released an advanced version of Jacksonville’s JaxReady mobile app, originally launched in 2012, that provides Duval County residents even more emergency preparedness information and tools.
The mobile app now includes enhanced evacuation zone maps with geolocation information, the ability to search addresses, information about the nearest activated shelter and additional tools to better inform residents during an emergency, reports the Jacksonville Business Journal.
The JaxReady app was created by employees working for the city of Jacksonville’s information technologies and emergency preparedness divisions. The app is available at no cost to users for both iOS and Android devices through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Mayor Alvin Brown said the mobile app was an important online mobile tool for the city to provide the best, most up-to-date information so people can prepare for and respond to emergency situations.
“This newly enhanced mobile app reflects our ongoing commitment to make city government even more effective and responsive to the needs of the community,” he said.
