National League of Cities: June is small cities month
National League of Cities is proud to announce that June is Small Cities Month. Small Cities Month will highlight and celebrate the enormous contributions small cities and towns make toward the fabric of our nation.
“As a former small town mayor, I can personally attest to the unique and important role our smaller communities play in making our nation a great place to live and work,” said Clarence Anthony, NLC’s executive director and former mayor of South Bay, Fla. “Our nation’s character for over 200 years has been defined by small cities and towns across this country. Small Cities Month is a celebration of all that our small towns offer to their residents and to the nation.”
Cities will celebrate Small Cities Month by issuing proclamations honoring the month, holding community events and generally showcasing local programs and offerings. On its website and through social media channels, NLC will highlight the exceptional services offered by small cities and towns. Also as part of the month, NLC’s Small Cities Council Steering Committee will meet in Burleson, Texas, to provide input to NLC’s policy process, share best practices and tour the city.
The Small Cities Council provides a forum for sharing ideas and best practices among smaller communities and works to ensure that the interests of small communities are reflected in NLC’s overall policies and programs. The council is comprised of NLC member cities with populations less than 50,000.
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
